The ACT Brumbies have signed former Australian Schoolboy's winger Henar Veratau to a two-year deal.
20-year-old Veratau was selected for the Australian Schoolboys in 2001 before switching to Rugby League where he has spent the last two seasons with National Rugby League champions, the Sydney Roosters.
ACT Rugby Union CEO Rob Clarke says Veratau is looking forward to returning to rugby and developing his game at the Brumbies.
"Some months ago, Henari expressed interest in returning to rugby and we were happy to talk to him about his future. He'll be with us for at least the next two seasons which is good news for our supporters, good news for Henari and good news for rugby," said Clarke.
"He's certainly a player with considerable potential and his quick, skilful approach to the game will fit our style of play. In his time with the Roosters he's learnt about the demands of a professional football player are and we'd expect that he will continue that development in our program."
Veratau made his first grade debut for the Roosters this season and sees the switch back to rugby as a good opportunity so early in his career.
"The Brumbies are a great team with a good reputation for developing players. I've watched them over the last few years and I can see myself fitting in well to their style of play. It's exciting to be coming back to rugby and I'm really looking forward to next season," said Veratau.
"One of the big attractions is the quality of the players here. There are so many people I will be able to learn from like Roff, Gregan, Mortlock and Larkham. It's sure to improve my game. I must say I was also impressed with the way the Brumbies management conducted our negotiation. They were very straightforward in their dealings and I appreciate that."
Veratau will complete his season with the Roosters before joining the Brumbies for their pre-season campaign in October.
